Tourist traffic from Russia to Singapore was up 10.3% last year - Singapore Tourism Board

SINGAPORE, August 17. /TASS/. The tourist traffic of Russian citizens to Singapore rose 10.3% in 2014 and about 90,600 Russians visited the country, Area Director Russia and Eastern Europe of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) Beverly Au Yong said on Monday in an interview with TASS. At the same time, the tourist traffic from Russia is declining this year, Yong said. "In January - May 2015 31,558 Russians visited Singapore, it is 33.2% less if compared with the same period of 2014," Yong said. Meanwhile, Russian’s "length of stay over the years has shown an increasing trend, from 3.85 days in 2010 to 4.07 days in 2013," he added. "This is the year of Singapore’s Golden Jubilee [the republic celebrated its 50th anniversary in August - TASS]," STB Area Director said. Furthermore, "we have also been named by Lonely Planet, CNN and New York Times as one of the top destinations to visit," he added. "STB will embark on a range of marketing and other initiatives and continue to reach out to a wider audience," the Area Director said. A year-long calendar of events has been planned to commemorate the Golden Jubilee, he added. "In addition to the colorful celebrations, residents and visitors to Singapore can enjoy a variety of privileges. More than thirty hotels in the city-state are offering tourists three nights for the price of two. Many of the city's attractions are open free of charge to young visitors. Among those - famous Gardens by the Bay, Toy Museum Mint, Singapore Flyer, theme park Snow City, and free tickets for children," Yong said. Read more
