Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan signs 3 documents with Chinese side

Bishkek, Aug. 17, 2023 / Kabar /. Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, Taalaibek Ibraev, signed three documents as part of a working trip to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China, the press service of the ministry said.

Minister Ibraev told about the signed documents.

Among the signed documents there are two memorandums and one draft memorandum:

1. Memorandum of intent on cooperation in the construction of the Sary-Jazz cascade between the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and TBEA;

2. Draft Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic and TBEA on the construction of a 500 kV Kemin-Torugart power transmission line.

3. Memorandum of intent between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the People's Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China on connecting the energy infrastructure for the purpose of supplying electricity.

The minister explained that under the first memorandum it is planned to build six hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 1,160 megawatts on the Sary-Jaz and Enilchek rivers. Their annual output will be 4 billion kilowatt-hours. The project is being implemented within 5-6 years together with the Chinese company TBEA.

According to the second document, it is planned to work out, together with TBEA, a project for the construction of a 500 kilowatt Kemin-Torugart power transmission line.

And the third document provides for the possibility of exporting electricity from Kyrgyzstan to XUAR. Ibraev clarified that there is no talk of specific volumes. Kyrgyzstan plans to supply surplus electricity.
