ˈIslamic Human Rights Dayˈ Ceremony Starts In Tehran

Tehran, Aug 5, IRNA – ˈIslamic Human Rights and Human Dignity Dayˈ ceremony kicked off in Tehran on Tuesday in the presence of Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani. Mohammad Javad Larijani, Head of the Judiciaryˈs Human Rights Council will give a lecture on human rights in Iran. The chairman of Al-Nasr Khan Younis hospital in Gaza will be given the first ˈIslamic Human Rights Awardˈ in the ceremony. August 5 was proposed by Iran as ˈIslamic Human Rights and Human Dignity Dayˈ and unanimously endorsed by the 57 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation at the 35th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Kampala, Uganda. Iran has launched this diplomatic initiative to open up an opportunity for the Islamic Ummah to exchange views and reflect developments in the area of human rights. August 5 was designated as Islamic Human Rights Day, since it is the anniversary of the adoption of the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam, a living document of 25 articles that has had a considerable impact on improving the international human rights discourse and promoting the values of human rights around the world./end
