‘Bahraini king will be invited to NAM summit’

TEHRAN,July 1(MNA) - Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa will be invited to the XVI Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, which is scheduled to be held in Tehran from August 26 to 31, the director of the Presidential Office’s department for international affairs announced on Saturday. Mohammad Reza Forqani said, “No invitation letter has yet been sent to the Bahraini king to attend the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, but, diplomatically, it must be done.” However, Mohammad Dehqan, a member of the Majlis Presiding Board, said on Saturday that the Bahraini king should not be invited to the summit due to the kingdom’s brutal crackdown on pro-democracy protests. “The Bahraini king and the Saudi king should not attend the Tehran summit because they have no legitimacy,” Dehqan told the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency.
