‘Cooperation with Iran guarantees security in region’

TEHRAN, Apr. 21 (MNA) – Iran and Azerbaijan defense ministers met in Baku on Monday to discuss ways of cooperation on the fields of defense and technology. Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan and Minister of Defense Industry of Azerbaijan Yavar Jamalov met and discussed the ways of expanding cooperation in the defense and industrial sector. During the meeting, Hossein Dehghan noted that the two countries needed to make use of their great advantages for development and further cooperation in order to improve their defense and technological capabilities. Pointing to the potentials and capacities of Iranian Defense Ministry in various areas, Dehghan stressed the need for speeding up the process of cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan. Yavar Jamalov, for his part, said historical memory of his country would never forget Iran as the first country to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is experiencing development in all spheres, Jamalov said, stressing that its acceleration and continuation needs cooperation with various countries, especially the neighboring ones. Pointing to his previous trip to Iran and signing a protocol on cooperation between the two countries, Jamalov said any cooperation with Iran would contribute to the establishment of peace, security and stability in the region. He expressed hope Dehghan’s visit to Baku would pave the way for increasing the level of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of defense, military and technology. Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan is on a visit to Azerbaijan at the official invitation of his Azeri counterpart General Zakir Hasanov.
