‘Enhancement of Iran-Russia ties will promote peace in the world’

TEHRAN,Sept.2(MNA) – Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said that strong ties between Iran and Russia will help promote regional and global peace. Larijani made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran on Saturday with Konstantin Shuvalov, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s representative to the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement. Commenting on the latest developments in the region and the world, Larijani said that Tehran and Moscow share common views and have great potential which should be utilized to promote cooperation in all areas. He emphasized the importance of close parliamentary cooperation and said it can play a major role in the consolidation of relations in various areas, including political, economic and cultural areas. During the meeting, the Russian diplomat appreciated Iran’s leading role in the region and said that so far the Islamic Republic of Iran has played an effective and constructive role in regional and global developments. Shuvalov said that the two countries have common stance on many international and regional issues, calling for close cooperation between Iranian and Russian officials. Commenting on the Syrian crisis, Shuvalov said that political dialogue can help establish security and peace in Syria and quell the unrest in the country.
