‘Iran took firm action against PJAK to foil U.S. plot’

TEHRAN, Nov.10 (MNA) – A commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps(IRGC) Ground Forces said that Iran took firm action against the counter-revolutionary group PJAK (the Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan) to foil a U.S. plot against the Islamic Republic. “One of the reasons that Iran took firm and prompt action against PJAK was the fact that Americans had spread along Iran’s borders and were designing a plot against the system,” Colonel Hamid Ahmadi told the Fars News Agency on Wednesday. The IRGC decided to take action against PJAK to “turn the game around and nip the plot in the bud” in order to show the Islamic system’s might. “Through taking such an action, the enemies of the system, particularly Westerners, understood that we will not give up protecting people’s security and securing the country’s regions,” he added. PJAK’s camps and based are mostly located in Iraq, near the border with Iran. PJAK uses Iraqi Kurdistan’s soil as a safe haven for organizing terrorist actions against the Islamic Republic. On July 11, after the escalation of PJAK’s terrorist actions in northwest Iran, military forces mounted a large-scale offensive against the group and killed, wounded, and arrested dozens of them. On September 21, the IRGC announced that it has restored complete control over the northwestern borders after clearing PJAK terrorists out of the region. Later it was announced that PJAK terrorists have stopped conducting terrorist activities in border areas.
