264 MPs call for Iran’s reciprocal moves against US

Tehran, Dec 4, IRNA – 264 members of the Iranian parliament called for the government’s appropriate reciprocal actions against the US administration. In a statement on Sunday which was read to the parliament on Sunday, the parliamentarians said that the “US Congress members in a move of showoff embarked on extending the hegemonic law of the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) and renewing of sanctions against the great nation of Iran which stands in clear violation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).” Their move comes despite the fact that many international officials including those in the US have repeatedly acknowledged Iran’s abiding by its commitments. They said as representatives of the Iranian legislative body, they condemned the US act as a token of its irresponsible attitudes towards its international commitments. Since the law on Iran’s proper and reciprocal moves in implementing the nuclear deal has already thought of appropriate reactions to violations of the JCPOA, the statement said, the representatives of the Iranian legislative body frankly urged the government to take speedy actions in conformity with articles 3 and 7 of the above-mentioned law and inform the Majlis on the consequences. The US Senate on Thursday (Dec 1) approved a legislation extending Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) for another ten years. The Act was to be expired at the end of 2016. Commenting on the issue, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said that the recent US unilateral move on extending Iran sanctions runs contrary to Iran's nuclear deal with the world powers and also to America’s obligations not to interfere in the domestic and international affairs of other countries under the international law. As per the basic principles governing international relations, the US government should be committed to fulfilling its international responsibilities, he said. Qasemi stressed that Iran's Foreign Ministry is monitoring the US government' behavior closely and would present a full report to the board monitoring implementation of JCPOA for necessary action. 1378/IRNA
