3rd Army Area ready to keep peace at border during Myanmar elections

BANGKOK, Nov 7 (TNA) -- Commander of the 3rd Army Area stated that the situation at the Thai-Myanmar border remains normal and peaceful, affirming that his command is ready to retain normalcy along the borders during the upcoming general elections in neighbouring Myanmar. 3rd Army Area Commander Lt Gen Somsak Nilbanjerdkul told the press that situation along the borders between Thailand, Myanmar, and Lao PDR remained calm and peaceful, noting that the command post is prepared to maintain normalcy and peace in the area, and there is no need to prepare any special measures ahead of the Myanmar general elections tomorrow. The 3rd Army Area is responsible for security in Thailand's north which bordering Myanmar. He, however, further ensured that the 3rd Army Area has prepared measures to handle the influx of migrants in case violence breaks out in the neighbouring country, but expressed beliefs that such situation would not likely to occur as Myanmar's govenment has earlier signed a ceasefire deal with eight armed rebel groups, in the hope of ending decades of conflict.
