57th meeting of UNWTO Commission for Europe kicks off in Baku

Baku, April 4 (AzerTAc). The 57th meeting of the Commission for Europe of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has today commenced in Baku. The event brings together delegates from 31 countries, and UNWTO officials, experts, and representatives of European tourism agencies. Speaking to the meeting, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nazim Samadov said it played an important role in broadening cooperation between the countries and strengthening the exchange of views and experience. The deputy Minister said “such events help promote Azerbaijan`s tourism potential in Europe”. “The flow of tourists to Azerbaijan has increased in the past few years thanks to the development of the industry in the country. We see the increase in the number of travel agencies, construction of hotels, facilitation of visa issuing procedures and so on.” The event was also addressed by UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Antonius Broek, and Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Malena Mard, who hailed Azerbaijan`s tourism potential. Mard said that according to the latest statistics, the number of EU citizens traveling to Azerbaijan as well as other countries of the South Caucasus has increased considerably.
