Abe, Morrison Vow to Cooperate to Prevent Terrorists' Internet Use

Osaka, June 27 (Jiji Press)--Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Australian counterpart, Scott Morrison, agreed Thursday to work together to prevent the use of the Internet by terrorists. Morrison wrote to Abe in March asking him to raise social media regulations at the Group of 20 summit after a deadly attack in New Zealand was live-streamed on social media by the gunman involved. Abe will chair the two-day G-20 summit, which starts in the western Japan city of Osaka on Friday. At their meeting in Osaka, Morrison said he expects support from Abe on the issue of social media regulations. Abe said Internet use for terror purposes must not be tolerated. The Japanese prime minister also said his country wants to cooperate with Australia in order to strengthen their special bilateral strategic partnership and ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Abe also congratulated Morrison on his victory in Australia's general election in May. END
