AC doesn’t open terrorism acts easier

BANGKOK, Nov 19 (TNA) -- Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, said the planned launching of the ASEAN Community is not meant that member countries would fully open their doors which would be easier for terrorism acts. The 10-member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plan to implement the ASEAN Community (AC) at this year-end. Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Mr Suwapan said the opening of AC would make implementation of certain issues “easier and faster” while every member country still operate a controlling system. On rumours that the Islamic State (IS) militant movement have set up branches in some Southeast Asian countries, Mr Suwaphan said so far there were no reports some Thais joined the group while analytical reports must and should based on facts. However, he admitted that people of some of Thailand’s neighbouring countries have joined the IS in Syria while it is possible that the group plans to expand its wing in this region and also wants to recruit new members. He said that coordinated attacks in Paris last Friday which killed at least 129 people and wounded some 350 others have forced almost every country, especially superpower countries to strengthening cooperation in dealing with terrorism. The Thai government has implemented security measures to deal with insurgency problems including control at its borders and immigration procedures while the civil network must also be strong. (TNA)
