ACTING ROAD MINISTER ATTENDS ASEM TRANSPORT MINISTERS’ MEETING

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Acting Road Minister D.Ganbat has remarked on Mongolia’s potential role in integrating Eurasia through road and railway at the ASEM Transport Ministers’ Meeting. The Acting Minister of Road and Transport Development led Mongolian delegation to the 4th Asia-Europe Transport Ministers’ Meeting themed ‘Bridging Asia-Europe through Integrated Transport Connectivity--Synergizing Regional Strategic Plan: Towards Modernized Transport Connectivity and Greener Urban Transport’ which took place in Indonesia on September 26-28. “Mongolia is the shortest gateway connecting Asia with Europe through road and railway,” noted Acting Minister D.Ganbat in his presentation which touched upon Mongolia’s government policy on road and transport sector and transport connectivity in the region. He remarked on the increasing role of transport sector in regional integrity and economic cooperation, emphasizing Mongolia’s intention to utilize its geographical advantage to facilitate increased trade and transport between Russia and China and furthermore, regional partners. “Development of multilateral transport network is important for economic and social progress of a land-locked country like Mongolia,” he said. The Acting Minister also spoke about the open and consistent transport policy of Mongolia which aims to develop transit transport, gain access to sea and facilitate trade and transport, and briefed on the latest developments and ongoing infrastructure projects in transport sector of Mongolia. “The co-signing of Intergovernmental Agreement on International Road Transport Along the Asian Highway Network by Mongolia, Russia and China in December, 2016 was a contribution to increasing connectivity between Asia and Europe,” the Acting Minister said, informing the possibility of joining the agreement to other regional nations. The Mongolian Minister talked about how initiatives and programs like the Mongolia-Russia-China Economic Corridor, Development Road project of Mongolia, Belt and Road initiative of China and Eurasian Economic Union are bringing Asia and Europe closer and expressed Mongolia’s readiness to actively work towards broadening transport network with other countries.
