Afghan Police Clash Rioters Outside Iran Consulate In Herat

Tehran, Sept 8, IRNA – Afghan police clashed Saturday with a group of rioters who tried to take advantage of a calm protest outside Iranian Consulate General in Herat to cause turmoil, spokesman for Herat province police said. Abdolreouf Ahmadi told IRNA that a number of visa applicants had gathered outside Iranian Consulate General to pursue their request when a violent group some of them carrying arms with prior planning joined them and tried to disrupt the calm protest. “As the protest turned violent police had to intervene,” he said, adding that one man was killed and four Afghan police officers were wounded in the clash. IRNA reported damages to nearby shops and Iranian Consulate General. Police has detained 10 rioters who had key role in the violence and dispersed the crowd, he said. The Afghan police spokesman said that those behind the violence will be prosecuted./end
