Afghanistan, Iran To Stay Together Under Any Conditions

Kabul, Feb 16, IRNA – President of Afghanistan’s House of People Abdul Raouf Ibrahimi has said that the two brotherly countries of Iran and Afghanistan would stay together under any conditions. Ibrahimi made the remarks while speaking to IRNA exclusively in Kabul prior to his departure for Tehran where he is to attend the 9th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States is being held in the Iranian capital from February 14-19. Referring to religious, economic and cultural commonalities between the two neighboring states, he appreciated Tehran’s support for Afghan refugees in the past 30 years. Iran opened its border gates to millions of fleeing Afghans from the Soviet war in Afghanistan and the subsequent civil war in 1980s. The people and government of Iran opened their arms to the Afghan migrants, said the Afghan official, adding he was confident that Tehran would continue its support for Afghan refugees in future. Referring to Afghanistan’s legislative body as a young system, Ibrahimi said Kabul is willing to have broader parliamentary relations with other countries, Iran in particular. He reiterated that promotion of bilateral parliamentary ties would benefit both nations, underlining the need for establishing stronger relations among parliaments of all OIC member states./end
