Afkham hopes UN envoy successful in Yemen

TEHRAN, Apr. 29 (MNA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman expressed hopes for the success of the new UN special envoy to Yemen. Marzieh Afkham who was voicing official position on the appointment of the new UN special envoy to Yemeni crisis Ismail Valad Sheikh Ahmad on Tuesday, expressed ‘good wishes’ for him, believing that the appointment by the UN secretary-general was an effective and constructive measure to stop military strikes against Yemen and a prelude to national dialogue in Yemen by participation of all parties and groups. “The military strike against Yemen was a critical error of judgment; the Islamic Republic of Iran strictly believes that Yemeni crisis would only be solved through political negotiation by Yemenis themselves to form national government; wisely avoiding further escalation of the conflict in an already volatile political environment would be great help for solving the crisis,” Afkham told reporters. FM spokeswoman urged ‘special efforts’ by the special envoy in Yemen to facilitate and accelerate humanitarian aid for Yemenies through close cooperation with humanitarian organizations.
