Ahmadinejad: World Threatened By Colonialist Behaviors, Not By Atomic Bombs

Cotonou, April 16, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday that the world is threatened by colonialist behaviors and not by atomic bombs. Addressing a group of students and instructors in Benin on Monday, Ahmadinejad said Iran strives to ensure that all nations benefit from nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. He said that the hegemonic powers are opposed to peaceful use of nuclear energy. Compared to other sources of energy, nuclear energy is cleaner and cheaper, said Ahmadinejad, adding that the energy can serve different sectors, including industry, agriculture, health, and medicare and can even improve the quality of agricultural products. Of course, there are certain groups of people who like to monopolize nuclear energy as well as other sophisticated sciences, he added. ˈThey are making mischief by equating nuclear energy with nuclear bombs. Of course, this is a big lie.ˈ There is a big difference between nuclear energy and atomic bombs, said the president, adding that nuclear energy is a helpful energy for all nations to the extent that the cost of generating each unit of nuclear energy is one seventh of that of electricity produced produced from fossil fuel. ˈWhile uranium mines are located in African states, we witness that nuclear power plants are located and operating in the European states and the US,ˈ he added. He said opposing the atomic bombs while having the largest arsenals of such ammunition is a contradiction. ˈYet another big deception on their part is they claim they are against atomic bombs, while they have big arsenals of atomic bombs.ˈ They accuse Iran of seeking to build atom bombs, said the president. ˈThey accuse any independent state intending to use nuclear energy of seeking to build atomic bombs. Atomic bombs have no room in political relations and it belongs to the past century.
