Al-Maliki Criticizes US For Voting Against Upgrading Palestine Status At UN

New York, Dec 3, IRNA - Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki here criticized the US for voting against upgrading Palestine status at the United Nations from observer entity to non-member observer state. Exclusively talking to IRNA, al-Maliki said certain countries ignore the Palestinians' rights and infact ignore the reality. He stressed that Washington voted against upgrading the Palestinian state at the UN claiming it was an untimely action. By voting against promoting the Palestine status at the UN, the US and its eight allies infringed the Palestinians' rights, said al-Maliki. Regardless of the US threats, over two third of the votes at the Thursday UN General Assembly were in favor of accepting Palestine as "non-member observer" at the UN. The US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton called it a "destructive measure". However, the analysts described this promotion as a victory for Palestine and defeat for the US that has been blindly supporting the Zionist regime. The analysts believe that some 138 members of the UN who voted in favor of upgrading the Palestinian status indicated the Zionist regime's isolation and the US wrong approach in the international arenas./end
