AL, Platform To Safeguard American Interests: Religious Leader

Islamabad, July 25, IRNA – Religious Pakistani leader on Tuesday said that Arab League has become a platform to safeguard American interests in the Middle East. Talking to IRNA, Allama Amin Shaheedi Deputy Secretary General, Majlis Wehdat Muslemeen (MWM) said that Arab League has not right to interfere in the internal matters of Syria and ask opposition and rebles to form government over there. “Arab League is exactly doing what US wants, they want to please US at all cost,” he noted. He said that Arab League is demonstrating the American desires. Arab League foreign ministers have called on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down. Allama Amin Shaheedi was of the view that US and West have used media to portray the distorted image of the actual situation of Syria. “Yes there are rebels in Syria but the people of Syria are supporting the government,” said the MWM leader. He strongly believed that the only target of US and European Union in the Middle East is to protect the Zionist regime. “They have become silent specter to the atrocities of Zionist regime on innocent Palestinians,” added the religious leader. Allama Amin Shaheedi said that US and West are following policy of double standards. “They claim to be democratic but actually they are pursuing dictatorial policies,” said the religious leader. Deputy Secretary General Majlis Wehdat Muslemeen expressing his opinion said that Syria is the only Arab state which is resisting to the Zionist regime’s atrocities in the region. “Syria has always represented the sentiments of Arabs,” he said. Allama Amin Shaheedi replaying to a question said that Islamic Republic of Iran is a major country of the world and can play a vital role to find out peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis. He said that people of Arab states respect Iranian stance on international issues. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has said that the six-point peace plan proposed by the UN envoy Kofi Annan is currently the best way out of Syria crisis. He stressed the need to stop foreign meddling in internal affairs of Syria as a main factor to prepare the grounds for implementation of Annan’s plan./end
