Al Qubaisi holds meeting with Kazakh counterpart

ASTANA, 2nd June 2016 (WAM) – The Federal National Council (FNC) delegation headed by the FNC Speaker Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi has held official talks with Gulmira Isinbayeva, Speaker of the Majilis, the lower chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, at the parliament headquarters in the Kazakh capital, Astana. During the talks they discussed a number of important issues, notably the strengthening of parliamentary co-operation through participation in international events and activation of co-ordination between the two parliaments regarding various issues of common interest such as nuclear security, nuclear energy, the green economy and space sciences. They also touched on the efforts of both sides to fight against terrorism and extremism, and to clarify the true image of Islam and support the initiatives of the two sides in international forums. The two sides stressed the importance of the establishment of a parliamentary friendship committee between the two countries to activate and develop the existing economic, cultural, investment and political ties, and strengthen parliamentary relations, as well as the importance of exchanging experiences in the areas of nuclear security and nuclear energy. They stressed the importance of supporting proposals of the two countries at all levels through participation in the activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and promoting the exchange of experiences in the academic and tourist areas. The Kazakh official welcomed Dr. Al Qubaisi and the accompanying UAE delegation. She congratulated Dr. Al Qubaisi on her election to the post to lead the parliament as the first woman at the Arab and Middle East levels. She also congratulated the UAE leadership on the advent of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Isinbayeva commended the economic and investment co-operation between the two countries, citing the Abu Dhabi Plaza project in Astana. The FNC speaker congratulated the Republic of Kazakhstan on its independence anniversary. She added that there is co-operation in the nuclear security file, nuclear energy and space sciences. Dr. Al Qubaisi also referred to the economic ties, and added that the volume of investments touched about $1.25 billion last year, while the volume of trade exchange stood at $255 million.
