All external players agree there is no alternative to dialogue in Yemen - Lavrov

MOSCOW, January 22. /TASS/. The stance of Russia which sees no alternative to a dialogue among the parties in the Yemeni conflict strikes a chord with all external players, including the United Nations, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday after talks with Yemeni counterpart Abdulmalik Al-Mekhlafi. "As for the reaction to our position in favor a dialogue, that has no alternatives, among all the Yemeni parties with an aim to get out of the crisis, I will answer positively - this position finds understanding among all external players, including the UN," he said. Lavrov said Moscow supports efforts by the UN secretary general’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, towards establishing a dialogue between the legitimate government of Yemen, the General People’s Congress party and Houthis. "These are the main forces, and they are all in the focus of the UN attention. We welcome this, and as far as I understand, all among the external players taking part in efforts to overcome the current situation, agree with this," the foreign minister stressed. Read more
