Ambassador Bold invited at Military Historical Society

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Ambassador of Mongolia to Australia Mr R.Bold was invited as a guest speaker to the Military Historical Society of Australia’s ACT Branch monthly meeting on April 30. President of the ACT Branch Ian Stagoll delivered opening speech and introduced His Excellency to the gathered. The Ambassador noted Australia’s celebration of 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli this year and Mongolia’s celebration of 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Khalkhin Gol last year. He also mentioned “Khalkhin Gol is like a Gallipoli for Mongolians” in his opening remarks and presented about “Battle of Khalkhin Gol”, which resulted in the defeat in 1939 of the Japanese Sixth Army on the border of Mongolia and Manchukuo. In conclusion, the Ambassador highlighted Japanese defeat in Khalkhin Gol changed their policy from north towards south, which led to Darwin bombing. Presentation was followed by questions and answers from the Members of the Society. Society members are mostly former diplomats, former military officers and academics.
