Analyst Accuses US On HR Violations

Islamabad, April 15, IRNA – A Pakistani senior analyst on Saturday held US and its western allies responsible for human rights violations in many parts of the world. Talking to IRNA Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Qayyum underscored the need for restructuring of United Nations (UN) to make the organization effective. The analyst added that US and Zionist regime are violating all human rights conventions, yet the world has become a silent spectator to such aggression. He said that US and its allies are worried about the rights of non-Muslims. “The drone strikes in Pakistan is an open violation of Geneva convention’s clauses 1,2 and 4 which clearly state that civilians have to be protected in war like situations,” he added. Abdul Qayyum added what about the rights of the people detained in Guantanamo Bay and in black sites of America in Morocco and Lithuania. He was of the opinion that the United Nations (UN) treaty to approve regulating business of conventional arms could pose a threat to world peace. The analyst said that if western countries continue to sell weapons to guerrilla movements and rebels in Syria for their own interest then peace cannot be restored in the world by treaties. He said that sale of weapons to Zionist regime must be stopped because they are using these arms for the genocide of Muslims in Palestine. He said that earlier League of Nations was formed to serve the interests of big powers and after the Second World War it was renamed as United Nations (UN). The intellectual said that use of veto power for big powers is the worst example of rights violations. “The right of veto should be withdrawn,” he said. Abdul Qayyum expressing his views said that US always uses veto right to reject resolutions against Zionist regime. Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum is a retired 3 star general of Pakistan Army. He appears frequently in television talk shows and is a well-known critic of American foreign policies pertaining to Pakistan./end
