Ankara discusses developments in Syria, Syrian citizens take shelter in southern Turkey

ANKARA (A.A) - 30.04.2011 - Turkish executives gathered together in a routine assessment meeting in Ankara to discuss developments in Syria and the entire region on Friday as Syrian citizens started to take shelter in southern Turkey.
Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Interior Minister Osman Gunes, Deputy Chief of General Staff Gen. Aslan Guner, National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Undersecretary Hakan Fidan, and Turkey's Ambassador to Syria Omer Onhon attended the meeting.
Diplomats said Turkey's priority was "end of violence in the possible shortest time."
When the meeting was going on in Ankara, Syrian citizens who were living in villages close to Syria-Turkey border crossed over the barbed wire in Yayladagi town of southern province of Hatay and entered Turkey.
The Syrian citizens said they wanted to get away from the pressure in their country.
One of the Syrian citizens, Muhammed Simeydo, who crossed into Turkey with his wife and six kids, said there were thousands of Syrians who wanted to take shelter in Turkey.
Simeydo said, "people are being killed in Syria, security forces are using inappropriate force, and that's why we have to leave our houses."
Turkish Red Crescent has started to erect 50 tents in Yayladagi for Syrian citizens.
Around 250 Syrians have crossed into Turkey so far, including 145 men, 44 women and 61 children (29 of them girls).
Hundreds of people have been killed during pro-democracy protests in Syria since January, 2011.
