Annan Describes Iran’s Role In Resolving Syria Crisis As Positive

Tehran, July 11, IRNA – The United Nations special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan said here on Tuesday that Iran has been playing a positive role in settling Syrian crisis from the very beginning. During his joint press briefing with Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Annan underlined the need for negotiation of all Syrian political groups and the government. He reiterated that holding talks is a key issue of his six-point peace plan for Syria. Asked about his talks with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Annan said the talks were mostly about the ongoing crisis and possible solutions to the issue. He further denounced the move by certain countries including Saudi Arabia and Qatar to arm the Syrian dissidents. Referring to the Geneva meeting on Syria, Annan said the participating states agreed on peaceful settlement of the Syrian crisis./end
