Anti-Azerbaijani forces fail to discredit European Games – minister

Baku, Azerbaijan, July 2 By Ilhama Isabalayeva – Trend: Anti-Azerbaijani forces holding the campaign to discredit the First European Games failed to achieve their goals, Azerbaijani Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said in an interview with “Azerbaijan” newspaper. The European Games once again proved the growth of Azerbaijan’s influence, said the minister, adding that the country ranked second for the number of medals won at Baku 2015. Rahimov said that the European Games are of great importance in terms of Azerbaijan’s national interests. Those attempting to form a negative view of the First European Games are against Azerbaijan and its national interests, said the minister. The sports minister added that of 16 Olympic sports included in the program of the European Games, 12 were licensed. “No athlete would like to miss this chance. Over 100 Olympic and world champions were competing for the championship at Baku 2015,” he said. The First European Games kicked off in Baku June 12 and wrapped up June 28. The Games hosted 20 sports – 16 Olympic and four non-Olympic sports. Over 6,000 athletes represented the European countries at Baku 2015. Edited by Sİ Follow us on Twitter @TRENDNewsAgency
