Arab Natural Gas Pipeline Project will continue, says Energy Minister Yildiz

ANKARA (A.A) - December 6, 2011 - Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said Tuesday that the Arab Natural Gas Pipeline Project would be kept out of the political tension in Syria and would continue. Speaking in a live program on Haberturk TV Channel on Tuesday, Yildiz said that the Arab Natural Gas Pipeline Project involved Turkey, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. The Project will be kept out of the political developments in Syria and will go on, Yildiz noted. "This is a project that would benefit the whole region. We may send natural gas to Syria and Lebanon via Turkey. At the present time, 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas comes from Egypt. However, as countries' demand for natural gas increases with time, we may need to send natural gas ourselves. Energy issues are not part of the sanctions against Syria," Yildiz also said. The Arab Gas Pipeline is a natural gas pipeline in the Middle East. It exports Egyptian natural gas to Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, with a separate line to Israel. It has a total length of 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) at a cost of 1.2 billion USD.
