Arab Spring an historic turning point, says Deputy PM Arinc

ISTANBUL (A.A) - November 30, 2011 - Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said Wednesday that the "Arab Spring" was an historic turning point. Speaking at the inauguration of the "Turkish-Arab Media Forum" in Istanbul, Arinc said that "the transformation in Arab societies will not be just limited to these societies but will have a direct impact on the whole humanity and other countries". It is our wish to see brotherly (Arab) countries change in the direction of justice and to have an atmosphere of peace and tranquility instead of chaos. As Turkey, this is what we would like to see, Arinc said. We are all inheritors of a deep history, culture and civilization that extends from Jerusalem to Mecca, Baghdad to Istanbul, Beirut to Sana'a, Cairo to Damascus, Rabat to Mogadishu, Arab Peninsula to Asia and Africa to Europe. The universal message that came out of our region has brought the tranquility and peace that the whole humanity neeeded, Arinc said. In no part of history, individuals living in this geography faced discrimination due to his/her beliefs, color and nationality. A region in which people felt safe for their life and properties turned into a region of blood and tears due to dirty games of some circles. People living in the region became enemies due to certain unfounded reasons. Silent walls were erected between our hearts and states, Arinc noted. Today, pain and tears continue to be part of the region. However, recent developments in the region seem to be turning pain and tears into happiness and tranquility, Arinc pointed out. It is crucial for the revolutions taking place in the region not to be destructive but be constructive. Extreme sensitivity should be displayed so that the revolutions do not become tools of certain foreign circles, Arinc also said.
