Arak reactor redesigning document to be published

TEHRAN, Nov. 16 (MNA) – Iran’s senior nuclear negotiator has told IRIB document of Arak reactor redesigning will be finalized and published on Monday evening. Seyyed Abbas Araghchi told reporters on Sunday that Iran and 5+1 had come to a general agreement about the document and the administrative formalities of signing of the document by seven foreign ministers and the EU foreign policy chief had been carried out; “Iran’s foreign minister and EU’s Federica Mogherini will be among the signatories; I received a story from Ms. Schmid, Mogherini’s aid that all parties except three countries have signed the document,” he told reporters. “The fundamental draft was prepared by Iran, China and the US as three countries’ will in redesigning of Arak reactor to apply the necessary changes provisioned in the JCPOA; this is an official document where parties announced their strong resolve to modernize Arak reactor (also called Arak heavy water complex),” Araghchi said. In response to a question about the time the actual redesigning operation would start, Araghchi told the reporters that it would kick off only after the issue of PMD (possible military dimension) had been clearly addressed and tackled by the Board of Governors of the IAEA; “the document to be published tomorrow will be decisive and will include political as well as legal obligations for all parties; then we will wait for IAEA’s ultimate report on PMD, where it would close the case altogether in PMD, and we will have the actual implementation,” he detailed. On the exchange of nuclear fuel, senior nuclear negotiator said that the preliminary actions including necessary contract agreements had been carried out by the AEOI; “the agreement on buying of yellow cake (UF6) and selling of enriched uranium have been signed, with financial arrangement also being addressed; all of these will depend on the tackling of PMD by the IAEA,” he concluded.
