Araqchi: Iran ready to cooperate with UN to achieve 2030 objectives

New York, Oct 2, IRNA – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi voiced Iran's readiness to cooperate with the Group 15 of countries to achieve 17 objectives of the millennium development. The Iranian deputy foreign minister made the remarks on the sidelines of the 70th UN General Assembly meeting and during the 38th foreign ministerial meeting of the Group 15 headed by Sri Lanka at the United Nations. Araqchi presided over the Iranian delegation at the UN meeting on Friday. The Iranian deputy foreign minister, meantime, pointed to the Mina tragic incident and regretted the death of nearly 5,000 Hajj pilgrims, including nearly 500 Iranians. Araqchi pointed to the importance of the year 2030 agenda document for sustainable document, and voiced Iran's readiness for cooperation with member-states to achieve the 17 objectives of the document based on the priorities of the workgroup. The Iranian deputy foreign minister reiterated the workgroup's capacities, especially in economic cooperation and political dialogue, and underscored the need for strengthening the South-South cooperation. Araqchi also reiterated the need for cooperation among the Group 15's member-states in the field of energy, agriculture, biotechnologies and tourism. The Iranian deputy foreign minister also supported the joining of new members from other parts of the world; Asia, Africa and Latin America to the group. Group 15 was established in September 1989 and it comprises India, Malaysia, Iran, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.
