Armenia isolated itself from energy projects in region – Turkish minister

Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan.29 By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend: Armenia has isolated itself from the energy projects in the region, Turkish Minister for Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Lutfi Elvan said. The minister said that the economic situation in Armenia is extremely deplorable, TRT Haber TV channel reported on Jan.29. Elsewhere, Elvan added that as always, Ankara stands for the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, adding that the settlement of this conflict will contribute to the economic development of the whole region. The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
