Ashton's Tehran Visit Will Have Positive Impact On Iran-EU Ties: MP

Tehran, March 9, IRNA -- A member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said Saturday that EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashtonˈs visit to Tehran can leave a positive impact on the nuclear talks with 5+1 Group and on development of ties with the EU. Talking to IRNA, Ahmad Shouhani added since Ashton is an influential authority in EU and Ian-G5+1 talks, her travel to Tehran will help enhance Tehranˈs ties with EU. Referring to European economic and political delegationsˈ visits to Tehran in the past months, he said such trips can help promote bilateral relations and upgrade interaction in solving dispute over Tehranˈs nuclear program. As to the invitation of Saudi Arabian king to President Hassan Rouhani , he said that promoting ties with Saudi Arabia is significant. Noting that the Rouhani administrationˈs policy is based on expansion of relations with all countries, neighboring states in particular, he said if Saudi Arabia, a neighbor of Iran, invites Iran, it will surely welcome the invitation. Touching on Majlis Speaker Ali Larijaniˈs visit to South Africa, Shouhani said that Majlis believes that parliamentary diplomacy should gain further momentum. Friendship and parliamentary groupsˈ visits play a crucial role in enhancing ties with other countries, the legislator said, noting that parliamentary diplomacy is complementary to state diplomacy./end
