Assyrian MP Criticizes Anti-Iran Resolution On Minorities Rights

Tehran, Jan 25, IRNA – Assyrian member of the Iranian parliament (Majlis) Yonathan Betkolia on Saturday criticized the latest resolution issued against the so-called violation of the religious minorities rights by Iran. Speaking to IRNA, he said whatever is underway in the country is only related to the Iranian nation. ˈWe have repeatedly said and written that we need no caretaker. We have always considered ourselves as Iranian Assyrians and will oppose any move or resolution issued against Iran,ˈ Betkolia stressed. Referring to an ancient treaty reached between Assyrians and the First Imam of the holy Prophetˈs Household Imam Ali (AS) in over 1,400 years ago, Betkolia said the agreement reached by our ancestors was an example of an international charter. The agreement is being kept at the Chelston Museum in the ancient city of Esfahan in central Iran. Betkolia said the ancient document should be published internationally to prove that the Islam against which they issue many resolutions is ˈa religion with a progressive view towards religious minorities.ˈ The Assyrian MP stressed that the Iranian Assyrians love their country and support its policies./end
