Assyrian Official Criticizes US Inaction Towards Daesh Crimes

Tehran, Aug 5, IRNA - Secretary General of the International Union of Assyrians Yonathan Betkolia on Tuesday criticized US silence regarding crimes committed by the so-called Islamic State (better known as Daesh) against minority groups in Iraq and Syria. Talking to IRNA, he noted that those who accuse Iran of violating minoritiesˈ rights are silent towards massacre of several members of minority groups in Iraq and Syria by Daesh. Iranˈs support for the Iraqi Assyrians discredited the so-called advocates of human rights who claimed that Tehran does not respect minoritiesˈ rights, Betkolia underlined. Referring to daily murder of Palestinian people in Gaza by the Zionist regime, he criticized Washingtonˈs full support for Israel. Daesh is a Salafi organization affiliated to al-Qaeda founded in Iraq in 2004. It has already destroyed several Muslims and Assyriansˈ holy sites in Iraq and Syria and killed followers of various religions./end
