Azerbaijan to achieve goals in ensuring human rights

Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct.24 By Ilkin Izzet – Trend: Chairman of Turkey’s Supreme Court Ali Alkan expressed hope that Azerbaijan will achieve its goals in the development of democracy and ensuring human rights. Turkey, which aspires to join the European Union, fulfills all its commitments to this organization, brings its laws and their implementation in compliance with the law of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights and carries out reforms, he told reporters in Baku on Oct.24. “We have been working on this issue for many years and have achieved good results,” he said, adding that Azerbaijan also actively carries out reforms in this sphere. Alkan also touched upon the trial of Azerbaijani hostages Dilgam Asgarov and Shahbaz Guliyev to be held by the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh regime. “I am not fully aware of this, but I can tell you one thing – this issue should be resolved in accordance with the international law and human rights,” he said expressing hope that the problem will be resolved soon. Armenian media reported previously that Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov were taken hostage in Azerbaijani Kalbajar district's Shaplan village on July 11. They also reported about the launching of criminal cases against the detained Azerbaijanis. Azerbaijan continues to work with international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs for the release of Shahbaz Guliyev and Dilgam Asgarov.
