Baku, August 15, AZERTAC “Azerbaijan always attached great importance to strengthening international cooperation in the Caspian Sea,” said deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalaf Khalafov as he commented on the signing of the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea in an exclusive interview with AZERTAC. “From this point of view, the Convention recognizes Azerbaijan`s cooperation with foreign companies and corporations in the implementation of projects in the sea and paves the way for the expansion of this cooperation." "The Caspian Sea plays a key role in a number of projects aimed at developing international transport corridors. The Convention therefore highlights the importance of the transit potential of the Caspian Sea. The Convention recognizes the littoral states` right to free access from the Caspian Sea to other seas and the ocean, and back. It gives the parties the freedom of transit for all their means of transport through the territories of transit parties," the deputy FM added.
