Azerbaijan keen to develop cooperation with World Health Organization, deputy PM

Baku, July 5, AZERTAC “Azerbaijan is interested in further strengthening cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO)”, said Deputy Prime Minister, Chair of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development Ali Ahmadov as he met with WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Deputy PM Ali Ahmadov hailed cooperation between Azerbaijan and the WHO, pointing to the importance of taking concrete and practical steps to strengthen these ties. Touching upon the healthcare system in the country, Ahmadov noted that the significant work has been done in Azerbaijan to reconstruct and develop this area. Ali Ahmadov said that on October 6, 2016, President Ilham Aliyev signed an order setting up a National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development and establishing the permanent Secretariat. “Mobilizing its resources to carry out the tasks arising from the Sustainable Development Goals and appointing the Deputy Prime Minister as a chair of the National Coordination Council is an indicative of special attention to this area. The National Coordination Council on Sustainable Development has done great job in this regard,” Ali Ahmadov said. The Deputy PM informed the WHO Director-General of the projects implemented in healthcare in recent years. He emphasized the importance of health insurance and the work done to improve health infrastructure in the country. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said he was pleased to be visiting Azerbaijan and thanked for the hospitality shown to him. He hailed the work done in the field of healthcare in Azerbaijan, saying that this will pave the way for more successful results. Saying that 2018 has been a milestone year for Azerbaijan, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus extended his congratulations on the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. During the meeting they also exchanged views over the other issues of mutual concern.
