Azerbaijan, Uruguay embark on political consultations

Baku, September 15, AZERTAC Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov has met his Uruguayan counterpart Jose Luis Cancela as the two countries launch first political consultations. Khalafov hailed bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Uruguay. He said political consultations would promote the strengthening of bilateral political dialogue. He provided detailed information about the country's geopolitical situation in the region, including Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan. Noting the great potential for deepening cooperation in agricultural, energy and cultural fields, Khalafov stressed the important role of high-level visits in terms of further deepening relations, mutual promotion and the use of new opportunities for cooperation. Hailing Azerbaijan's interest in developing relations with Latin American countries, including Uruguay, the Azerbaijani Deputy FM expressed his regret that trade and economic relations between the two countries was falling behind the two countries` potential. “The development of political dialogue will give impetus to economic relations.” The Uruguayan Deputy FM underlined that the first political consultations would contribute to the development of relations. Luis Cancela praised Azerbaijan's experience during its activities as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, adding his country was interested in studying the experience in this sphere. Hailing Uruguay's policy to support regional and global peace and stability, the Uruguayan Deputy FM noted that they backed peaceful solution of conflicts in compliance with the international law.
