Azerbaijan, World Health Organization discuss cooperation prospects

Baku, July 6, AZERTAC Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met with Director-General of World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom. Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov hailed the cooperation with the specialized agencies of the United Nations, as such World Health Organization (WHO) and Azerbaijan. Minister Elmar Mammadyarov pointed that Tedros Adhanom`s priorities as the WHO Director-General – Universal Health Coverage, Protection of women and children, and internal reforms in the organization are commended by Azerbaijan. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom appreciated the sincere welcome and praised Azerbaijan's progress in healthcare. Mentioning the great potential for cooperation between the WTO and Azerbaijan, he noted that Azerbaijan's successful experience could be of interest to other Member States as well. The Director General suggested considering academic scholarships in the field of medical studies within the WHO, as the Government of Azerbaijan grants education scholarship for foreign students. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on employment of Azerbaijani experts in the system of WHO and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals by Azerbaijan at the national level. Minister Elmar Mammadyarov briefed the interlocutor about the actions carried out in a coordinated manner to achieve implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
