Azerbaijani FM meets US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State

Baku, July 23, AZERTAC Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has met U.S Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Richard Hoagland. They discussed the issues of cooperation in the fields of transport and energy. Hoagland highlighted the USA's initiatives to support the development of the Silk Road, saying Azerbaijan plays an important role on this front. He underlined that the implementation of these initiatives would contribute to stability, prosperity and cooperation throughout the Eurasian region. Mammadyarov noted that Azerbaijan has taken regular measures towards expanding transport infrastructure as an important element of non-oil sector development strategy. Stressing the importance of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the New Baku International Sea Trade Port, the Azerbaijani FM hailed the Silk Road's contribution to the development of railway, land, sea, air, and even information and communications segments.
