Azerbaijani Ombudsman meets Russian President’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights

Baku, May 9 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights, Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova has today met Commissioner of the President of the Russian Federation for Children’s Rights Pavel Astakhov and Russian ambassador to the country Vladimir Dorokhin. Suleymanova gave an insight into what the Office of the Ombudsman had been doing to strengthen the protection of human rights in the country. The Azerbaijani Ombudsman said the Office developed its first special report on the children’s rights and presented it to several international organizations, including the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. Suleymanova hailed the activities of the National Preventive Group under the Ombudsman Office as successful. She noted that legal and educational programs had been carried out to increase knowledge and skills of employees of the Ombudsman Office. “A number of trainings and workshops have been arranged for our employees involving prominent international experts. Resource centers, as well as children’s rights clinics dealing with the rights of children and old persons were established in Azerbaijan.” Commissioner of the Russian President for Children’s Rights Astakhov hailed the activities of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman. He also praised cooperation between Ombudsman offices of Russia and Azerbaijan. Ambassador Dorokhin highlighted projects carried out under bilateral cooperation between the Azerbaijani Ombudsman`s Office and Ombudsman institutions of the subjects of the Russian Federation.
