Azerbaijani parliament adopts Ombudsman’s annual report

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 7 / Trend / The Azerbaijani parliament has adopted on Wednesday the final report for 2011 of the Human Rights Ombudsman of Azerbaijan. During the discussions, ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov noted that the number of complaints in the legal field dropped in 2011 compared with previous years. "This is the result of work done in this area," he said. NAP's other Deputy Executive Secretary Mubariz Gurbanly said in his speech that human rights require constant improvement. Azerbaijan has approved the National Action Programme for the Development and Improvement of human rights and freedoms, he said. He noted there are problems with on-site examination of citizens' complaints. Therefore, citizens have to write complaints to the Parliament to deputies and other government institutions. Gurbanly said a separate law on what measures should be taken in cases of delays in consirering complaints should be adopted. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
