Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister meets UNDP head

Baku, September 26 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov has met with head of the UN Development Program Helen Clark in New-York. According to the Ministry, Helen Clark noted that Azerbaijan is one of the active members of the UN Development Program, and stressed the importance of her visit to Azerbaijan. She also expressed satisfaction for seeing Azerbaijan as a middle-income developing country, as well as the country`s development and active role in the international arena. Minister Mammadyarov stressed the importance of Clark`s Azerbaijan trip in terms of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the UN Development Program and the Government of Azerbaijan. He noted that in order to assist developing countries to overcome humanitarian and socio-economic challenges official Baku has established the Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA) and got the status of donor country. Mammadyarov underlined more than 30 countries of the Latin America, Africa and Asia have benefited by this humanitarian aid up to now. Clark has also hailed Azerbaijan`s achievements in the sphere of information-communication technologies, and stressed the importance of the sphere in strengthening strategic cooperation between the UN Development Program and Azerbaijan. The two had comprehensive exchange of views on numerous questions of mutual interest.
