Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry: Armenian leadership continues its provocative actions and rhetoric of war

Baku, April 20, AZERTAC The Armenian leadership continues its provocative actions and rhetoric of war instead of learning a lesson from its unsuccessful and irresponsible military adventure on the line of contact of troops in early April and taking constructive steps to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The intensification of violation of ceasefire by the Armenian side along the frontline is a result of the policy pursued by Armenian regime, spokesperson of Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry Hikmat Hajiyev said as he commented on the statements of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan during his visit to the Azerbaijani occupied territories. "Visiting the occupied Azerbaijani lands, the Armenian leadership is interested in an escalation of tension and there is no opinion in his speech about the region's future, normalization of Armenia's relations with neighboring countries and ensuring sustainable peace and security." "The Armenian leadership is pushing the country's young people to ethnic hatred, war and massacre with its theses about populism and artificial patriotism characteristic of military dictator. The Armenian regime in this way tries to deceive the Armenian society, whose more than 70% lives in poverty, to distract attention from the military losses due to the failed military adventure, and to recover its completely lost credibility and confidence in public," Hajiyev said. “The statements of the Armenian political and military leadership, who personally participated in committing the Khojaly genocide and ethnic cleansing of more than one million Azerbaijanis, on war crimes causes nothing but contempt. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces properly prevented the criminal actions of Armenian leadership who targeted the civilian Azerbaijani population and tried to commit the war again in early April," the spokesperson noted. "On the background of the changing military status quo, the Armenian leadership must finally understand that the occupation of the Azerbaijani lands will never yield its expected political results. In order to prevent the re-escalation of the tension and achieve a resolution of the conflict and ensure sustainable peace in the region, the Armenian armed forces must withdraw from all the occupied territories of Azerbaijan in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council. The sooner the Armenian leadership realizes this reality the sooner we can restore peace in the region," Hikmat Hajiyev added.
