Baku hosts international conference marking 10th anniversary of Judicial and Legal Council

Baku, May 22, AZERTAC An international conference marking the 10th anniversary of the Judicial and Legal Council has been held in Baku. Called “The Role of judiciary in democratic society”, the conference was attended by judges of the European Court of Human Rights, senior officials of the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice, representatives from Turkish Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors, Supreme Court, Chief Prosecutor’s office and Justice Academy. The event started with the demonstration of a short documentary on the activities of the Judicial and Legal Council. In his speech, Azerbaijan`s Justice Minister, Chairman of the Council Fikrat Mammadov highlighted the Azerbaijani government’s reforms to ensure improvement of judicial system and transparency in the appointment of judges. Others speakers included head of the Department for Work with Law-Enforcement Bodies at the Azerbaijani President`s Administration Fuad Alasgarov, chairman of Azerbaijan`s Constitutional Court Farhad Abdullayev, chairman of the Supreme Court Ramiz Rzayev, Prosecutor-General Zakir Qaralov, Deputy chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova.
