Baku hosts photo exhibition marking centenaries of UK Royal Air Force and Azerbaijani Army

Baku, June 30, AZERTAC A photo exhibition has been launched in Baku to mark the 100th anniversaries of the British Royal Air Force and the Azerbaijani Army. Addressing the ceremony, UK ambassador to Azerbaijan Carole Crofts said that the Royal Air Force was founded in 1918 as the first independent air force in the world, providing continuous military service over the past years. The ambassador mentioned that 1918 was a historic year for Azerbaijan too. In 1918, Azerbaijan established the first republic in the Muslim world and formed its armed forces, just a few months after the founding of the British Air Force, she said. The ambassador said the UK welcomes Azerbaijan's support for international peacekeeping operations. Azerbaijani Deputy Defense Minister, Commander of the Air Force Ramiz Tahirov highlighted the history of the establishment of Azerbaijan's armed forces. He noted that the modern Azerbaijani army is capable of carrying any combat mission. “Azerbaijan`s army is today among the powerful armies of the world. The country has made great strides throughout the past years.” He also hailed relations between Azerbaijan and the UK in various areas, including the military one.
