Baku Olympic Stadium to host grand opening ceremony of first European Games

Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr. 1 By Elchin Mehdiyev – Trend: The preparatory work for the opening ceremony of the first European Games is being rapidly conducted at the Baku Olympic Stadium, the general manager told journalists April 1. Ron Cameron, general manager for the construction issues at the stadium, expressed confidence that a grand opening ceremony of the world level will be held there. Cameron said that all spectators, who will observe the opening ceremony, will be amazed. “The stadium will be completely ready before the Games,” he said. “The main work on the stadium has been completed. The landscaping and other work, including cleaning are underway. He also touched upon the distinctive features of the Baku Olympic Stadium from other stadiums of the world by highlighting some of its advantages. The audience seats on the stadium are located in close proximity to the territory where the competitions will be held and this will undoubtedly allow the spectators to closely watch them, said the general manager. Cameron added that the latest technology has been used on the stadium and modern systems of security, lighting, sound and control have been installed there. Baku 2015 is the first-ever European Games, an exciting and innovative multi-sport event for the continent which will take place on June 12-28, 2015. There will be a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of competition. Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) in December 2012.
