Batkivshchina Party refutes reports about Timoshenko’s plans to visit US

KIEV, April 21 (Itar-Tass) - The press service of Ukraine’s Batkivshchina Party refuted on Monday media reports about plans of party leader Yulia Timoshenko, who seeks the Ukrainian presidency, to visit Washington on April 23. Media reports said Yulia Timoshenko cancelled a trip to the United States after US congressmen had refused to meet with her. Information about the visit “is not consistent with the reality,” the press service said, adding that “a visit of the party leader to the US was never planned for the mentioned data, and that is why it could not have been cancelled”. Last week, the Batkivshchina leader appealed to the US Congress for military assistance to Ukraine. Timoshenko said that the country needed “comprehensive assistance, including military-technical aid that would include air defence and anti-tank munitions as well as assistance in the training of military personnel”.
