Berlin Slammed For Ignoring Palestinian Plight In Israeli Jails

Berlin, May 23, IRNA -- The head of Berlin's Palestinian community here Monday lambasted the German government for ignoring the woeful situation of Palestinians languishing in Israeli prisons, branding it 'shameful.' Talking to IRNA, Ahmad Muhaisen stressed it was 'shameful' that Germany was closing its eyes to the mistreatment of Palestinian inmates in Israeli jails. He called on German politicians to support 'the just and humanitarian cause' of Palestinian prisoners. 'Palestinian inmates are fighting for their dignity, freedom and just cause,' Muhaisen reiterated. He urged Berlin to use diplomatic and economic means to pressure the Zionist regime to end its ongoing violation of Palestinian prisoner rights in Israeli jails. 'It's time to show Israel the red card. Enough is enough,' Muhaisen said. More than 1,500 Palestinian prisoners staged recently a successful three-week hunger strike, in protest against the detentions, wide denial of family visits and solitary confinement. Many Palestinians have family members in prison or experienced detention first-hand during decades of Israeli occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. International human rights groups have repeatedly slammed the Zionist regime for violating Palestinian prisoner rights. The illegal Jewish state has also been heavily criticized for its systematic torture of Palestinian inmates, including women and children./end
