Blocking Iranian Nationals Bank Accounts In Turkey Rejected

Ankara, April 24, IRNA – Iranian Embassy in Turkey on Tuesday rejected speculation about blocking Iranian nationals bank accounts in Turkey. Following rumors that Iranians living in Turkey have been asked to close their bank accounts, the embassy followed the case through legal channels, the embassy said. It said it turned out later that no instructions have been issued to this effect and it was done only upon the personal decision of a single branch of a private bank for a particular customer. The Turkish body responsible for monitoring banks had already announced that such acts are illegal, stressing that there have been no such instructions so far. A Turkish media carried news that two Turkish banks had asked their Iranian customers to close their accounts, otherwise, they will be blocked./end
